ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/August 18) – “Sports is a way to team-building and strengthening the unity of government workers towards a peaceful and prosperous city,” Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz said at the opening of the City Sports Fest 2007 last Friday.
The sports fest started with a parade from the city plaza to the hilltop city hall early morning.

City sports director Frederick Siao also introduced and congratulated the Iligan Crusaders, the basketball team of the city which recently won the championship in the national tournament.

The sports fest features basketball, walkathon, volleyball, tennis, chess, among others.

On Friday morning, government workers who were divided into teams showed off their talents and abilities for a field demonstration contest at the city hall’s open amphitheatre.

Some groups used simple dance steps with costumes adorned with native and beautiful props, others used some ethnic steps.

They wore colorful and creative uniforms, making them distinct from one department to the other. They were adjudged by their creativity, originality and relevance to the theme. (Violeta M. Gloria/MindaNews)
