MARAWI CITY (MindaNews/11 May) -- Some 100 Muslim and Christian youth from conflict areas of the Lanao provinces and the cities of Iligan and Marawi ended on Friday a four-day interfaith youth camp here with a commitment to create peace circles as their contribution to peace building efforts.

The youth camp, which was initiated by Kapamagogopa Inc., a non-government organization, gathered Muslims and Christians for them to build “friendship and camaraderie as way to remove the historical barriers that brought prejudices and biases which hinder good relations.”

Anita Sescon, of the Mindanao Commission on Women (MCW), one of the facilitators, said “youths needs to be organized first in their respective communities and in their schools as peace circles where they can converge and discuss their issues and train them to become effective instruments of peace and understanding.”

Sescon also handled a crash course on self-transformation.

KI executive director Mariam Barandia said previous interfaith forums inspired the group to hold the youth camp here. [More at MindaNews]
