Religious leaders condemn Iligan bombing

ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/08 July)-- Christian and Muslim religious leaders here have condemned the bombing in Iligan city as "evil.”

Msgr. Jemar Vera Cruz, vicar general of Iligan diocese, condemned the bombing incident in Iligan city that wounded 17 victims and called it a “handiwork of evil because they took delight in damaging property and destroying lives of innocent civilians."
"This is unacceptable to society. But we suspect this design. Is this the design of the rightist? the MILF ? We do not know. Its a mystery that we ought to wait the result of authorities' investigations," Cruz said.

Seventeen persons were wounded, including a soldier from the 104rth Infantry Brigade in Lanao del Norte after an improvised explosive devise (IED) planted under a red Toyota Corolla vehicle exploded shortly before 11 a.m. in front of Pilar Building along Sabayle Ave., near the city’s pier.

The IED wrecked the military cruiser parked beside the Corolla that was identified by Land Transportation Office as registered under the name of Mario dela Pena. Another white car parked nearby was also partially damaged.

The bomb also partly destroyed Pilar building which houses Exquisite pawnshop and Exquisite Resources Inc., a store that sells television sets.
"The damage done to our property can be estimated to P200,000 pesos," said Ching Pilar, owner of Pilar's Building.
The explosion's impact also destroyed the Caltex gasoline signage, BCE electronic's walls, and a chicken lechon house's walls made of glass, across from where the bomb exploded. More at MindaNews
