Iliganons want truth about power outages

ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/15 Feb)—Employees of Ivory printing press were busy fanning themselves and putting out their handkerchiefs to wipe off their sweat.

It’s brownout time once again. The machines are running on generator and Inday Makaulang, owner of the printing press, says they have been spending P4,000 for the use of their generator in a three-hour power outage.

“That is expensive for us but this government is providing us no choice,” she adds.

Saldivar recommends a thorough evaluation if the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is telling the truth about alleged low water level for hydroelectric power. She said it must also re-examine simultaneous repairs of generation machineries to ensure that no economic and political sabotage is ongoing especially since it is almost the elections.

Saldivar says that if the scheduled power curtailment would continue towards the election, then there is a high probability that this would pave the way for vote-padding. She said delaying the transmission of results because of malfunctioning machines due to power outage could be made a justification by interest groups.

“Why are they fooling us? Some administrators and officials are putting us under their mercy when we in the business sector are paying our dues to government,” Saldivar said while examining another newly-brought generator. [More at MindaNews]
